I tend to follow the NBA the same way by tuning in when the playoffs
start. I do think however that the NBA has gotten better to watch with
teams like Dallas and Sacramento where they actually play team ball.

Unfortunately, I find myself paying more attention to how poorly the
refs call the game rather than the teams playing it.

I also channel hop during the game but I think this is mainly because I
know that 9 out of 10 games are going to come down to the final 2
minutes no matter how big the lead is.

I equate the NBA to an arcade game that I wasted many hours playing
called 'NBA Jam', no matter how bad you were winning or losing, it was
always rigged to make it close at the end. The only difference is the
video game rigged it by having the losing team get hot where as the NBA
does it by having the officials even things up.

I could not agree more. The NBA today is all about showcasing
individual
players. The only time I really watch NBA basketball is during the
playoffs
when I team or a player I am interested in is playing. And even then, I
tend to channel hop quite a bit. The style of play just doesn't hold my
attention.

The NBA is unwatchable for several reasons:

1) Star players getting all the calls
2) 4-5 steps before travelling is called
3) Isolation plays instead of team offense (24 second clock is part of
the
problem here)
4) Little to no defense
5) Thug players and the whole "business" of professional sports...

The college game is much better...
