Only problem is that West is 6'7"+, not 6'9". Fortson went
from 6'7" at UC to 6'8" in the pros. I would bet that West
measures out at 6'8" at best. With limited leaping ability,
a questionable outside shot and not great height, where does
he play?

Guard - no way
Small Forward - too slow, no outside game
Power Forward - maybe, but short and no hops
Center - See power forward, picture Yao against West ;-)

There is the reason, I think, he dropped. My comment about
Player of the Year was based on my frustration that I saw
him in games against NBA caliber big men, and he did not
play well.

Got to roust a UK fan today about CUSA being a better
conference since the best the SEC had went 1-2 versus CUSA
and got smoked in the two loses. He said that UK shot
poorly in those games and would probably winc 9-10 against
Marquette and U/L ;-) He hit a bad tee shot on that hole ;-)

Jon, I agree with what you said but most of the time, this is
true for guards and undersized players. When it comes to "size",
the NBA will take a chance on almost anybody. It almost seems
like the NBA will take a chance on an unproven 6'9" guard
(Dermarr) than a All-American 6'0" guard (Logan). I have hardly
ever seen a 6'9" player (with bulk) drop like David West has
dropped. We have seen great college players not go in the first
round, but for the most part these guys were undersized - David
West is truly an exception.

One problem I have with this is that a player can be good in
college, but not be pro material. Steve Alford comes to mind.
Anyway, it is not straight logic to say because West is going to
be drafted #19 he is not POY.

With that said, is he POY? I did not think so, but he was the
"in" choice for some of the awards. It is "cool" to vote for
someone outside of the Big 6.

And I also would take Collison over West without a thought.
