RE: New poll online

Since the old polls have been put online, I thought it would be interesting
to see how WE answered this question last year. Bobbitt and Hicks tied with
42.8%; and Moore and Kirkland were a distant 3rd at 8.8%.

The disheartening thing is that after seeing the season - with proverbial
hindsight - I am hard pressed to say which player had the biggest impact.
Further, given the hype and expectations associated with Hicks and Bobbitt,
I feel incredibly sceptical about this year's incoming class.

After my poor predictions/expectations from last year - Field would have a
break out season, BJ would get fit - I've decided another approach - low
expectations.

The point will be played by committee among Moore, N. Williams and Kirkland
Field will be his his typical self: streaky - set jump shooter, little game
off the bounce
Bobbitt and Hicks and probably White - will show glimpses of brillance, but
be erratic with attitude problems
Max will be reliable
Whaley will inherit the Ryan Fletcher doghouse. How many times will I see
Whaley pulled and then a nose to nose with Huggins?
Flowers and Johnson will be inconsistent subs for Whaley - Flowers a nice
bucket on the offensive end, and Johnson a manly rebound -- if you could
morph the 2 together you would have a decent role player.
Pilgrim will have a Chadd Moore freshmen year.

Sorry for the pessimism, but I am really going for low expectations.
Perhaps the events of last year at this time have put a pall over me.

Go Cats!

Didn't Huggs say earlier this season that Max wouldn't draw double-teams
next year because Whaley would be drawing them? That alone may prove to be
the biggest impact of all.

Of course, I'd like to see this debate rage on into next season because we
can't agree about which player's hugely positive impact is bigger. But I'm
an eternal optimist.

I agree, the offense will go through Maxiell.

Whaley will basically "plug a Hole" and back up the D so people don't get to
go to the hoop like they did.

Again, even with this years team, it wasn't totally the absence of a Center,
it was more the absence of a LEADER...

Obviously Whaley is a VERY welcome addition, but I don't see how he can be
the player with the MOST impact.

I see the offense moving through Maxiell myself. Whaley will have to prove
something before he is the focal point.

Yes, White will practice a year and a half, but Whaley
will have been in the games a full month before White.
White has played 1 year at D1 and Whaley 2 years at
JUCO. I don't think that is very much of a difference
in regards to experience. That is a bold statement
saying that White "WILL" be the team leader
considering he will be out for atleast a month and he
left Florida because of playing time problems. Most
team leaders don't leave teams because of playing time
(ex. Hicks and Bobbit). Also, do you not think that
the coaches have seen Whaley play also? or do you
think they recruit them blindly? I couldn't disagree
more about your comment on White seeing the ball more.
I have a strong feeling that the entire offense will
be run through Whaley, just as it they tried to run it
through Maxiell this past year. Our weak point on the
team is not our 3 spot, it is our center. I don't
think anyone can argue this, and that is what Whaley
will fill.

Huh? Maybe people think White can have more impact
because of the following

1.) White will have already practiced with the team
for a year and half!!! (Much more experience than
Whaley's ONE month)
2.) White has in addition to that experience of
practicing with the team has a Year in DIV 1 at
Florida
3.) White WILL be the team leader, I think that need
is even BIGGER, than our hole at center, if we'd
have had a true take charge leader (Forgive me
Stokes) We could have done more even without that
center
4.) The coaches have seen White play, and he is NOT
a "?"
5.) Whaley is a TRUE Freshman, with no DIV 1
experience, and nor experience under Huggs... For
all we know he'll pull a Hicks and take time off
etc etc...
6.) Whaley still has to learn the system
7.) Whaley will not see the ball as much as white,
the offense will NOT go through the center, not with
Hicks and Maxiell and white there.

hmmm...

Now I can see why people think white will have more
of an impact.
IMO

I agree. I can't believe anyone thinks White will
be
more of an impact than Whaley. Whaley fills our
biggest (no pun intended) need, plus he will be
playing (hopefully) the whole season where as White
will have to sit out a couple months. I think White
will be very good, but not nearly as important to
the
success of next years team, IMO.
