All,

Speaking of Jason...

I for one was very happy with JMAX's development this year.

And to give way the manifesto of the following email - I think it is not
wrong to parallel Jason and Kenyon's development and to this point Jason
is ahead of schedule. One caveat - Kenyon's skills blew up between his
'late' junior and senior season. JMAX still needs a really big year to
keep pace.

This year JMAX showed he can develop new offensive moves - and is ahead
Kenyon on offense. Last year JMAX shot almost exclusively off a
turnaround over his left shoulder (it was pretty nice to watch) - and it
was also usually from the right side of the baseline. He now
consistently puts the ball on the floor and takes it towards (but not
at) the net. His scoring is a little more creative and unpredictable. If
he was not double teamed this year, I feel he would have averaged 17 -
18 pts a game this year, and at least a couple more rebounds (double
teams hurt his aggressive offensive rebounding). JMAX's offence is ahead
beyond Kenyon's sophomore season, who after his sophomore season was not
confused with an offensive threat.

On a humorous side note: Who can forget the free throw stance Kenyon
used back then. It was pretty funny.

Defensively, I still think Kenyon was ahead of JMAX at this point. But
Kenyon wins this side of the ball simply because Kmart gave a unique
energy to his defense. Kenyon was, and is still, extremely explosive.
But I do feel JMAX's ability to play 'straight up' post defense is
better than Kenyon's at this point - after his sophomore year. Kenyon
was still a bit like Eric Hicks this past season. Kenyon tried to block
everything. It got him into foul trouble and limited his playing time.
JMAX does get his share of blocks, and is a very good shot blocker, but
JMAX gets his blocks from his position on the block and anticipation.
Kenyon's often came off energy - rushing down the floor the block a
fast-break from behind.

At any rate, I am very excited to watch JMAX come alive next year when
Robert Whaley is occupying some space under the basket.

I vote for Whaley being the biggest impact playing, but only because it
really opens things up for JMAX.

And lets not forget Whaley's befit to James White flying in from the
wing...

How many days til midnight madness?....Oops, we still have the final
four this weekend...

Until Max proves that he can develop more dimension to his offense, i.e.
playing face to the basket, much better recognition of coverage and
better passing, I would be reluctant to make that prediction. Don't get
me wrong, I love the guy. Max has such incredible ability and talent, I
just think that these are natural progressions in his game. I think
that White, having the familiarity with the offense and his explosive
athleticism, will do what Leonard tried to do (and often succeeded). To
me, Max would benefit and reap monster numbers if he were left to roam
the zone between White and Whaley. I've heard that Whaley is a good
passer and with our team now having someone down low like Whaley to
score and rebound, Max will free up for passes from Whaley or be
available to clean up any missed shots from Whaley.

On the other hand, maybe having Whaley frees up Max to play "his" game
more effectively and maybe he could be the guy that the offense is built
around. As you can see, I could either way. It's a win win situation
for us either way.

I see the offense moving through Maxiell myself. Whaley will have to
prove
something before he is the focal point.

Yes, White will practice a year and a half, but Whaley
will have been in the games a full month before White.
White has played 1 year at D1 and Whaley 2 years at
JUCO. I don't think that is very much of a difference
in regards to experience. That is a bold statement
saying that White "WILL" be the team leader
considering he will be out for atleast a month and he
left Florida because of playing time problems. Most
team leaders don't leave teams because of playing time
(ex. Hicks and Bobbit). Also, do you not think that
the coaches have seen Whaley play also? or do you
think they recruit them blindly? I couldn't disagree
more about your comment on White seeing the ball more.
I have a strong feeling that the entire offense will
be run through Whaley, just as it they tried to run it
through Maxiell this past year. Our weak point on the
team is not our 3 spot, it is our center. I don't
think anyone can argue this, and that is what Whaley
will fill.

Huh? Maybe people think White can have more impact
because of the following

1.) White will have already practiced with the team
for a year and half!!! (Much more experience than
Whaley's ONE month)
2.) White has in addition to that experience of
practicing with the team has a Year in DIV 1 at
Florida
3.) White WILL be the team leader, I think that need
is even BIGGER, than our hole at center, if we'd
have had a true take charge leader (Forgive me
Stokes) We could have done more even without that
center
4.) The coaches have seen White play, and he is NOT
a "?"
5.) Whaley is a TRUE Freshman, with no DIV 1
experience, and nor experience under Huggs... For
all we know he'll pull a Hicks and take time off
etc etc...
6.) Whaley still has to learn the system
7.) Whaley will not see the ball as much as white,
the offense will NOT go through the center, not with
Hicks and Maxiell and white there.

hmmm...

Now I can see why people think white will have more
of an impact.
IMO

I agree. I can't believe anyone thinks White will
be
more of an impact than Whaley. Whaley fills our
biggest (no pun intended) need, plus he will be
playing (hopefully) the whole season where as White
will have to sit out a couple months. I think White
will be very good, but not nearly as important to
the
success of next years team, IMO.
