I actually am excited about the fact that he will miss a few early games
since it will help decide a few other players roles on this team.
I see Kirkland starting those games and maybe seeing Bobbitt and Field on
the floor together at times. It may also provide Pilgrim's best opportunity
to show what he is capable of.
I for one believe that Kirkland could hold on to the starting job depending
on how he does early. His greatest asset is his ability to beat defenders
off the dribble for cheap fouls or easy baskets. I think this is what made
Logan so dangerous since he seemed to be able to draw fouls whenever the
team went into a shooting slump.
As for White's defense, I will hold judgement until we see him in a game. I
have spoken to Kentucky fans (I was able to find all 3 intelligent ones) and
they joked about White's defensive prowess while with Florida. I keep this
in perspective considering Billy Ball doesn't usually require guys to play
both ends.

Using this year as an example: He would have missed the first 5 games andas
been eligible for LaSalle.

White doesn't sit out a "couple of months". He can continue to practice
he has since early January and will practice beginning Oct. 15th of this
upcoming fall as well. He just won't play his first game until the end of
the fall quarter, which I believe could be as early as Dec. 11th or 12th.
After that, he's good to go.

I agree. I can't believe anyone thinks White will be
more of an impact than Whaley. Whaley fills our
biggest (no pun intended) need, plus he will be
playing (hopefully) the whole season where as White
will have to sit out a couple months. I think White
will be very good, but not nearly as important to the
success of next years team, IMO.
