I know what you meant Jason, agreed. :-) I think he will be the answer
though to the inside problem.

Gregg,
What I meant was that people expect Whaley to come in and be dominant
a
la Kenyon in his junior/senior year. Past experience has shown in Huggs's
system that most guys don't "get it" untill at least a year in the
program.
All I am saying is not to get our hopes too high for a first year player
in
the system. There are only two guys that I can think of who put up strong
numbers their first year (Fortson and "Dumb"tonio Wingfield). In essence,
let's hope Whaley can come in and help the team turn one of its weak areas
this year into an area of strength, nothing more, nothing less.

I am as excited about next year's team as anyone. I agree, they look
great
on paper. Of course, this year's team looked great on paper too (Donald
was
still on the team and there was hope BJ would get in shape).

Here are the questions I see that need to be answered.

1) Leadership (particularly senior leadership). Huggins has talked
repeated
in the past about how seniors come with an urgency that others lack.
Field,
Bobbit, Flowers, Johnson? I can't see a leader in the bunch. May the
spirit of Bobbie Brannen be visited upon one of them. I voted for J Max

in
the poll - he has more experience than anyone who is left. Will it
translate into leadership? We have been critical about how Lenny
disappeared at times during this season. I think the same could be said
about Jason. Granted he was hampered by the lack of a true center, but
isn't part of leadership overcoming the obstacles?

2) Center - Whaley is unproven and it is a long time till he arrives
here -
he could end up out of shape (BJ), off the team (Don), or recovering
from
a
gunshot (Eric). Also, we still have to worry about depth. I think
Kareem
might be able to fill that role, if he knew that was going to be his
role.
He could work hard for short periods, he just couldn't sustain it. But,
right now, 2 quick fouls in the first half and we are looking at CBC
again.

3) Point guard - I like what I have seen of Chadd and what I have read
of
Williams, but I think the is room for doubt. IMO Chadd lacks a killer
instinct. He is just a little too "happy go lucky" for me. I look at
Hollis Price and TJ Ford, they are not going to back down from anyone.

4) Chemisty - I think this could be the biggest question. In the
backcourt
we have a lot of talent. Who is going to be happy on the bench? N.
William/Moore, F. Williams/Bobbitt, White/Hicks/Kirkland I'm not a
fortune
teller, but if I looked in a crystal ball I can see atleast one player
quitting the team, one player being suspended, one player not dressing
for
a
game, etc. And without a clear leader - this problem could be
magnified.

How many days to Midnight Madness? Can we get a counter on the webpage
to
count it down?

However, I am not looking at
Whaley as being the savior next year. I would be totally pleased next
year,
if he was able to draw enough attention down low next year to allow
Max
room
to operate.

Jason,
That would be my defintion as 'savior' for this team. Chance are if UC
had
Whaley this season, they win at least five more games and beat Gonzaga
IMO.
That is where Robert is going to be HUGE.
