RE: Cats are going to the NCAA

Here is my take. Most of us have grown very accustomed to a certain
level of play from the Cats, and this year pales in comparison. We are
also used to C-USA being very mediocre and this year they are holding
their own. We have as many top 25 teams as the SEC, PAC10, ACC, and Big
East, more than the BIGTEN, and only the BIG12 has more with 4.

Based on past years, we usually had to hold our record to tougher
scrutiny than other teams because their conferences appeared tougher. I
don't think that is the case this year with a few exceptions.

So after the loss, I too wrote off the NCAA based on my own reasoning
that focused on UC. Now that I have focused on the rest of college
basketball I realize that there aren't a whole lot of better options for
the committee to choose from.

I don't think Randy was trying to put down our team.  He was simply
stating
some facts with regards to what might keep UC out.  Immediately after
the
USM loss, I was resigned to the fact that UC was going to the NIT.  The
radio announcers, Dan Hoard and Chuck Machuck, also believed that the
NCAA
bid was gone.  Now, after thinking about for a couple of days, I think
UC's
chances aren't that bad.  UC is certainly not a lock but their resume
looks
better than a lot of teams considered to be on the bubble.

This NEGATIVE attitude is killing me.  We should be supporting our team

pushing for them to get in no matter how bad they played and how much

Joe Lunardi (ESPN's "bracketologist") said recently that the whole
selection
process can best be summed up as:

    "Who did you beat, when did you beat them, and where?"

If this is in fact the overriding philosophy, UC is in trouble (IMO).
Here's why ....

UC has 3 road wins:  TCU, Saint Louis and East Carolina.  Two of those
are
the very bottom of C-USA this year.  The third has since beaten UC at
the
Shoe.  The most recent of these wins was January 22nd.

UC has one neutral court win:  Oregon, on December 17th.  If Oregon were
still considered as good as they were then, I wouldn't be writing this
message.

UC has one neutral court loss:  Southern Miss, on Wednesday.

UC's 2 "marquis" wins, over Oklahoma State and Louisville, were both in
the
Shoe, and both teams have been less than stellar since.

If we could take away any one of 1) the fall of Oregon, 2) the home loss
to
Saint Louis, or 3) the loss to Southern Miss, UC would be in, with room
to
spare.  Together, those 3 things will quite possibly keep them out.
