Re: Is it time to make a change at Shooting Guard?

The main thing is that with Barker on the floor all our offense is is passing around the arc til either a) field shoots a contested 3 or b) stokes penetrates and gets stripped/fouled. With Chadd or Kirk in there, the ball is always being penetrated to within 12 feet of the basket, drawing defenders in, giving more OPEN looks for shooters on the perimeter. Plus Chadd and Kirk, and even Tony for that matter, can push the ball up the court on a fast break and get a score out of. Taron can not do this whatsoever. For the rest of the season we need to play Chadd and Kirk significantly more, with Taron seeing only about 10 minutes. This way we will put more pressure on the defense, allow Field and Tony to get some OPEN looks for once (which they ALWAYS make if they have the chance) and will get many more easier baskets. I mean, what else do we have to lose? If nothing else we get Chadd and Kirk to improve for next year and see some signifcant mintues in pressure situations. START WINNING!!!

Unfortunately, that isn't the only change they need to make. In order to go anywhere in the conf. tourny they need Chadd to play more and Barker to play less. I like what Barker has done with his limitied ability but in order to win against good teams, they are going to need Chadd on the floor. Along with that, I think Hicks needs more playing time based soley on his defensive presence. I know two games doesn't mean much, but Kirkland should see increased time, with Stokes (although most might not agree) seeing decreased minutes. It seems likes Stokes gets the ball blocked, or knocked away from him just as many times as Kirkland or Moore make a bad pass or decision, which gets them yanked for it.

15-59 3PT- 25%), is it time to send Field back to the bench in hopes of
getting a better start out of the shooting guard position to start the
game? I think there are three options: leave Field in as starter,
start Bobbitt at shooting guard, or start Kirkland at the shooting guard
position.

I'm not a huge fan of Tony Bobbitt, but I do think that it's tough to
win when your starting guard is shooting 22% overall from the floor over
the last 8 games, including a stellar 2-19 (11%) from inside the arc. I
think we're going to need at least 20 points from either Field or
Bobbitt (or Kirkland) if we are to make a run in the tournament this
week and also in the NCAA tourney.

On the other hand, if Field has been the starter all season, is it the
smartest decision to shake things up at this point in the season? Then
again, I guess this season hasn't been an overwhelming success. Maybe
it would help get Field going by bringing him off the bench, allowing
him to regain the form he had last season when he shot 43% from 3 point
range.
