RE: UAB tickets available (was Stokes)

I dunno about this. Remember last year's team? I would say they were
one of the best teams in the country. And the students weren't exactly
flocking to go pick up tickets (until the big games late in the year
versus Marquette and Memphis). I could be wrong, but I don't think
attendace as a whole was a big difference over this year.

Next year the students will be buying and scalping them. The better
seats
to watch one of America's best programs with the size of UC's student
body
should equate to a student section being 100% full of rowdy students
every
home game.

Unclaimed student tickets?!?!?!?! What a friggin' joke. If I EVER hear
a
student complain about ticket availability, I may just take them out
and...!
Unclaimed student tickets should never happen! Not when the program is
where
it's at. If this continues they're just going to take more of those
seats
and sell them as season or UCATS tickets.

If you want to get a ticket consistently, you have to be consistent
yourself. You have to be there when things are good, and you have to be
willing to sit through a tough year. Personally, I believe this year is
a
good thing. One, it certainly gives Huggins a little more hunger for
next
year. Two, it separates the pretender fans from the real fans. You
gotta
have a bad year to make the good years all the more enjoyable. I love
being
the underdog every once in a while...

I just went to the UC athletics web site to request a single ticket for
the
UAB game and it is putting me in row 29 of the upper deck. So, either
the
unclaimed student tickets are gone or they are not made available
online.
Getting two tickets together puts you in row 30. Anybody know how high
the
upper deck goes?

Huggs mentioned last night that there are a large number of tickets
available for the UAB game. He indicated that there are a large number
of
unclaimed student tickets and upper level tickets unsold. I know I
sound
like a broken record but this is ridiculous. Tomorrow's game has huge
implications (is a must win in order to make the big dance); it is
senior
day; and the last home game of the year. How there could be a large
number
of unclaimed tickets is really really inexplicable.
Huggs also mentioned on the radio show that there is a direct
correlation
between the size and enthusiasm of the crowd, and the team's intensity
level.
If any of the forum folks are in town and free for the game, I hope
they
go
over and buy a student ticket to show support for the team and
especially
for a class act senior like Lenny Stokes (Barker too).

There are articles today in both the Post (better) & Enquirer about
Leonard
getting ready to play his last game at the Shoe tomorrow on Senior
Night.
There is also a squib in one of the papers about Kenny Satterfield
being
cut
yesterday from an NBA team. I can remember several of us on the Forum
back
when they were freshmen, espousing the concept that Stokes just might,
in
the long run, make more of an impact at UC than Kenny would. Of course
we
will never know what might have been the case if Sat had stayed for 4
years.
(I wonder, after being waived by the Sixers, and averaging less than a
point
& assist per game in 5 minutes of playing time - and that, after being
claimed off waivers by them, if Kenny now thinks leaving UC after 2
years
was the best thing he could have done from a career standpoint?) One
of
the
things that the articles stress is Lenny's personality, which, as a
person,
is outstanding, but which I believe contributes mightily to his
inability
to
consistently be THE team leader, the one that this particular squad
needs -
he simply is too nice a guy to have the hard edge that is probably
needed
to
accomplish such a task. I don't suggest, for example, that K-Mart or
Logan
weren't nice guys off the court, I suppose they were - but I think
there is
a "softness" to Stokes' persona that makes it awfully difficult for him
to
be a consistent driving force. In any event, he is finishing as one of
the
top 20 scorers in UC history, in the top 10 in games played/won, &
will
have at least 1, and probably 2, degree(s). He certainly has had a
career
of which he can rightfully be proud!
