I think Rod could have done just as good of a job failing to guard Massie as the rest of UC's big men did. Since he can score and UC couldn't score in the game I thought you'd see him get a few minutes.
Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this if so, I apologize for being repetitive, but did anyone think that with about 10-12 minutes left in the 2nd half when the game was still in reach and Memphis was starting to beat UC bad inside, that UC should have pulled out some zone defense. They have played zone all year when they had match-up problems, why not against Memphis? I thought it would help stop the inside game and force Memphis to chuck 3s which they seem willing to do. Just a thought.

I think that we all agree that Rod cannot guard a stationary bike but at least he can score. While the other post players may have a slightly better defense, it does not outweigh the fact that they are non-existent on offense.

Question:
Which UC "Big Man" has a reasonably good post game, can consistently score
with his back to the basket, has never had a 1-8 or 3-14 type shooting
night, and averages over 9 rebounds/40 minutes of playing time?
Answer:
Rod Flowers
I just don't see why Rod is not given more opportunity to play. I know his
defense is lacking, but is it bad enough to force UC into putting a guy out
there that can't score or isn't even a threat to score. Playing 4 on 5
every game really hurts. Rod is a threat to score, can score, and averages
more rebounds/minute than every player on the team except for Hicks.
When your offense is as lacking as UC's is I'd think you'd take some chances
with guys like Rod and Chad Moore to create some offense.
Just my 2 cents.
His defense is nonexistent. Rod Flowers couldn't cover me. I've never
seen a weaker defensive player in my life. I think that's why you see
him more in the ECU game but against Memphis, Marquette and UofL he's
not going to stir from the bench. He should have played football where
you can play one way.
