For the same reason they don't bother with the extra point after a touchdown
in an overtime football win? What difference does it make except to
bookmakers? ;-)

Question for you...

Duke is playing St. Johns with the game tied, Haten steels the balls and
drives to the basket. He shoots and is fouled as time runs out. He goes
to the line and makes the first one then they rush the court and the game
ends 72-71 St. Johns. Don't they have to shoot the other free throw?

Why would they only shoot one?
