Brian,
I like Barker and think that he is an average point guard. He hustles, he
plays with more heart than anyone else and he is a great rebounder.
However, his statistics are misleading, in my opinion. How many of his
assists on on "perimeter" baskets where the pass is a no-risk proposition.
Compare that to the number of "drive and dish" assists that lead to interior
baskets. The later just NEVER happens.
Barker is a great handling of the ball from 20 feet and beyond away from the
basket. His shooting has come back down to what we expected at the
beginning of the year, which is minimal. We get no fast break baskets and
no baskets off of turnovers. How many steals does he have.
I am not trying to bash Taron. I truly enjoy watching his effort. But as I
have said before, he is a Treasury bill. No risk and very little return.
That type of play will get you about a .500 record in this conference, which
is where we are.
My opinion respectfully submitted,
Mark

stickDo you really think Memphis is the best team you have seen this year?? I
think we beat ourselves in the second half, Memphis did nothing as far as
stepping up their game, we just looked clueless on offense.
We didn't lose by 19 because of how well Memphis played, we lost by 19
because of missed dunks, missed jump shots, the inability to hit a few
backs off of some rebounds.
Oh yeah, who is this Tony Barker guy? I am all for playing the freshmen
more. Despite Chadd's defense (giving up wide open threes), I would still
like him out there for 10-12 minutes a game just to change the pace on
offense. As for Barker, I would rather not beat a dead horse and drag up
that topic again. There are plenty of other things to complain about.
All Barker did was hand out six assists with no turnovers and he was one
rebound awat from leading the team in rebounding for the THIRD straight
game (He had 7).
Barker is not the problem.
