Honestly, I am not trying to create contention in anyway, it just sounded
very curious. So I was hoping Brian could put it to rest for me, or perhaps
confirm it.

This story sounds pretty sketchy. If it is true, I could just imagine what
would have happened had he "stood up" for Field. It would go something like
this: He'd be arrested for assault, get suspended, the papers and UC haters
would formally label him a violent thug, and years from now we'd be reminded
from XU fans how Tony Bobbitt sucker punched five people in a bar fight.

If the story you mention below was even remotely true, I think the local
newspapers and the local radio stations would have been all over the story
and this forum in turn would have again bemoaned the media for its constant
UC bashing. Obviously, I cannot say with 100% certainty that something like
this did not happen but I would be very careful to believe such a rumor.

I completely disagree. I think Bobbit prepares better then you think, and
would be starting if there wasn't a third year system player in front of
him. Huggins mentioned right before Bobbit quit the team, that he was
trying to find more minutes for him, what does that say? I don't hear him
saying that about players like Hollman, and Flowers.
One other thing, I have kinda been biting my lips on for the past few weeks,
maybe Brian can shed some light on for me. I hate to be the igniter of
rumors, but I heard that Chuck Mayschock said that the real reason that Tony
Bobbit quit the team earlier this season was because of an altercation at a
nightspot while with Field Williams. Supposedly someone sucker punched
Field, and Tony did nothing to step in for his "friend". After the team
found out, they gave him a hard time, and rightfully so, after which he
quit. I never did buy the playing time argument, and his "dad" said that
was only part of the reason. Also the timing was very peculiar, and the
punishment was non-existent. Perhaps you cannot speak on this publicly
Brian, and that is understandable, but am I completely up in the night on
this one?

I cannot understand the logic of starting Bobbitt over Field. It appearsto
me that Tony has not figured out what it takes for him to prepare for aplay
game - either starting or coming off the bench. We want players who can
a full 40 minutes, but it seems Tony needs some time (2, 3, 5 minutes) todo
get into a rhythm? I think that is unacceptable at Division 1. Further,
we really want to reward him for his lack of preparation by starting him?off
When Tony puts up a poor shot early in the shot clock it is often the same
as a turnover - people are not in position to rebound, the other team is
and racing. Would we accept Taron turning the ball over repeatedly?to
Lest I be interpretted as Bobbitt bashing, I like very much what Tony can
contribute to the team. Like many has said, he brings unique dimensions
the team particularly on the offensive end. Wouldn't it be nice if hecould
do it on a consistent basis and not once a month? I believe thenot.
inconsistency lies is Tony's preparation; not whether he is starting or
I think this goes to mental toughness.free

At one point after Tony missed a few shots, he was fouled and made both
throws...I remember thinking that making these free throws would get him
into the rhythm. I've seen Leonard do the same, when he makes a couple of
early free throws, he gets into a groove shooting.
Well, I'm really happy about the effort and the win, but I'm still not
sold on Bobbitt. I just can't stand players that take bad shots, and Tony
took 3 or so before he got in the groove. So, I think Tony needs more
discipline, not more playing time. Maybe Huggs should keep track of all
the bad shots that Tony takes, and make him run 10 laps for each bad shot.
Don't worry about whether his shots go in or not, just hold him
accountable for bad shot selection.
