I disagree about Hicks. His defensive rebounding was just simply awful. He
missed the box out on at least 3 FT's. His man continuously out-hustled him
to the ball. Up until this game I really liked his toughness, but at
Charlotte he regressed seriously. Part of it is that Charlotte really
"brought it". Hicks and all these young have to understand that this is not
HS. When people bring it to you, you HAVE to respond. They just don't
understand what that means yet...

In his post game Huggs said a few interesting things. Paraphrased of
course.

"One guy (Bobbitt) gets in and his man scores 8 straight points on him
before I can take him back out." - *Personally, I thought Bobbitt played
Nash pretty well in that stretch, he just made a couple of hard shots.*

"One guy (who was this?) - when inbounding the ball he was just supposed to
catch it and give it to the Point Guard. Instead, he just dribbles around,
who knows where he was going. Then he jumps to throw a pass out of bounds.
I've never had a guy flat out defy me like that. I told him if he did that
again he can pack his bags and leave."

"No one knows what they're doing and no one is on the right side of the
floor." - * I did note a few times when the team adjusted to the double
teams down low and reversed it and got open looks that just didn't go down.*

"Never had a team just not try to rebound. We've never been outrebounded by
16 and we've never given up 23 Offensive Rebounds." *Agree, the effort was
terrible.*

"Yesterday's practice was the worst of the year. I wanted to make them run
until they puke and in younger days I would have, but then they wouldn't
have any legs for the game. It's my fault for letting some things go that I
normally wouldn't."

GREAT HUGGS QUOTE - "Everyone has the will to win, few have the will to
prepare to win". Huggs quoted someone for this, don't remember the name.

Anyway, there were a few good spots (I know it's like polishing a turd).
UNCC definitely outplayed us and they deserved to win. But we did have some
open looks that just didn't go in, our FT shooting was terrible, and we
missed some easy shots (a couple Stokes drives didn't go).

BTW, Barker drove the ball SEVERAL times - was fouled some times (missed
some FTs though), a couple dishes, and at least one lay-in. His halfcourt
TOs were disturbing though. Also, Moore led a great break and made a great
pass Barker probably wouldn't have tried.

And, I love Hick's game - I think he gave the most effort out there and I
can't wait to see him develop further. He is so much better than Kenyon as
a freshman (but not as good as Max and Fortson as Frosh).

We literally (and figuratively) need to rebound on Tuesday. It looks like a
week to prepare didn't help this team, maybe a 2 day turn-around will spark
them.

If the bearcats play like the did against OSU next week v. L'ville, they
will still lose. No offense will do that, and L'ville has more than
enough
firepower, and plays D. Marquette played tenacious D yesterday,
Louisville
still made shots.

Okay, it really can't get much more frustrating than that loss. But does
anyone really doubt that this same team could actually beat Louisville
next
Saturday at the Shoe. I know they could if the intensity is there and with
a
couple breaks, and that makes it even more frustrating :(.
