He would have one year of eligibility and would have to sit out the entire next season if he stayed in Div. I.

Question for the experts on the forum.

Why would he quit now in the middle of the season? Does quitting now give
him a better opportunity to play somewhere else sooner?

As I recall, when Antwan Jones wanted out, he came to his senses and
realized that he'd have to sit out a full year anyway so quitting in the
middle of the season wouldn't get him started somewhere else sooner. I can
see being unhappy and wanting to leave, but why leave in the middle of the
season. You're just losing 2 months of D1 experience this way.

Losing a scorer like Tony is tough, but Kirkland is not the answer right
now. He has shown nothing in the last few games other than the ability to
turn the ball over repeatedly. At least Moore has put up decent points when
he has seen significant PT and gotten a number of free throws as well. The
problem with losing Tony is now there is only one serious 3 pt threat on the
team. Sure Barker may hit one or Stokes may hit one, but Tony is the one guy
who could come in and get hot.

Barker and Moore is NOT the answer. Those are 2 players, who do not score.
We do not need ball handlers for crying out loud, we need people who can
score the basketball.

Huge shock. Like Jason said, the timing makes it even more shocking.

- Huggins has hinted at playing a more guard oriented lineup
- Bobbitt is coming off a big game for him
- Louisville forces opponents to go deep to their bench by wearing you
down
- national audience against a team where Bobbitt's skills would excel

I can't imagine anyone had any idea this was coming. I have wondered how
we would get enough minutes for him and Field next year but didn't
expect this to happen based on all of Tony's positive comments.

Well, who will pick up the slack? I think for the Louisville game it
could mean more Barker and Moore at the same time since Huggins would
want ball handlers against the press. Kirkland might also get more
minutes because of this.

I really hope we see big minutes from Hicks, I think he is our best
option if this game is going to be at a full court pace.

Wow. Great timing Tony. Right before the biggest game of the year and
with the team struggling. He puts up a huge 2nd half and probably
would've seen more PT versus L'ville, so he goes AWOL. THis is really
surprising given how great his attitude has always seemed to be. He was
always rooting his teammates on, and in every interview he gave he was
very positive, and always mentioned how much he respected Huggs and
would walk through walls for him. Well a team that struggles to score
just lost a scorer. This season is starting to really go downhill fast.

The Post says that Bobbitt has left the team, and frankly I am extremely
mad at him! Huggins always seems to take people back after little mental
lapses, but I am not sure I want him back for this stunt. At least when
Eric Hicks left it was during some "dead time" of the Christmas break
that he was using to sort things out. And remember he is a true
freshman, not a JC player with only 2 years at a school like Cincinnati
to prove himself and make something of his basketball career.

I was thinking maybe we had a 25% chance of pulling an upset of
Louisville tonight, and Bobbitt could have played a significant role in
that. The wide open game that Louisville can get into would seem ready
made for some Bobbitt 3's at some point in the game. He has completely
shown his selfish character and lack of concern for the team at their
most crucial point in the season.

I don't think we need this kind of selfish guy and "split personality"
as his friends have described around. I had been hoping for some
leadership even out of him next year, yeah right.
