My point wasn't about exceeding the numbers, my point was that if he produces at that level with modest effort, then Huggs job is to get the most effort out of him for the ultimate benefit of the team's performance. Given our serious lack of production in the post, getting more out of Whaley would be a big part of the equation and would logically result in higher numbers and/or more consistent effort.

As far as getting excited, Whaley has been a force at every level and in the spotlight for far too long for me to look at him like I might other less heralded recruits. He's at the level of Fortson and Wingfield during their recruitment periods. I consider it very reasonable to have advanced expectations of his ability. I feel that there is no chance of him going pro, so he's coming.

In other recruiting news, wouldn't it be great if the rumors about Sani Ibrahim were true as well? I'm not sure I know enough about Matt Terwilliger to have an opinion one way or another, but apparently it is reported that he could continue to grow past 6'-9".

Huggins' job is not to have him 'exceed' those numbers, Huggins' job is to
get them to play as a team and win games.

I am rooting for him as much as anyone, I just choose not to get too excited
about players until I they get on campus.

I have also heard about the "negatives" but UC is his best chance on making
a career for himself at the next level. I would consider averaging 18
points and 10 boards not too bad at the Juco level. From everything that
I've heard, that he could easily exceed those numbers. That is Huggs' job.

I just can't help but focus on the negatives that read about him (lazy,
unmotivated, inconsistent, only gives effort in spurts). Say all you want
about Huggins being a motivator but he is not a magician, the player has to
want to be motivated (see B.J. Grove). Besides, from a stats standpoint,
Whaley hasn't exactly dominated on the Juco level.
