I was happily surprised yesterday to see how much Field was actually
handling the ball, doing more dribble drives, etc. Rather then that quick
pass off, if he doesn't have an open three. This makes him measurably more
effective.

Unfortunately yesterdays game was the first game that I could watch in a
couple of weeks and here are my thoughts... 1) Our frontline offense and
defense stinks. We need to scrap the defensive mentality because regardless
of how well the other 3-4 players defend the opposing team will score
inside.

Totally agree with this assessment. However, defense might be predicated
on matchups. How well does the team handle the ball. Some teams you might
still be able to match up with okay inside, I mean not everybody have
the big physical players like Depaul and Marquette. But let's press those
big teams and force the big guys to beat us in a quick game.

2) As a result of point #1 Huggins should make permanent changes to the
lineup and hope for the best. I would start Moore, Baker, Williams, Stokes,
Bobitt, and Maxiell. These are the only players that have any chance of
making a shot.

If Huggins could do that we'd be a threat to win a lot of games but even
C-USA refs might notice 6 on the court.

I'd drop Moore. People think that lineup would turn us into a
perimeter game but I don't think so. Bobbitt and Stokes are both
capable of penetrating and to an extent so are Fields and Barker
though how long is it going to be until the opposing team realizes
that Barker never actually shoots when he penetrates.

You could also add Moore in a lot of spell guys so he'd get significant
playing time. That would give us three point guards to work with as
last year Stokes did some time at the point.

Later,

Zuke
