Andy - I like Randy's suggestion to the effect that maybe we play most of
the "younger" guys, Hicks, Kirkland, Moore, along with Bobbitt, as a group.
This would, as Randy said, probably change the pace the game, which should
certainly change the turnover statistic you quoted below. In the next game
I'm not sure we can "out-quick" UofL, but if we can't make them play the
game at our pace, Barker, Johnson, Holman and company are going to be blown
out down here - and on national television. However this might work in
other games - it certainly seemed that when we pressed a little, opened up
the game, Bobbitt came alive and we had a lot less trouble scoring the ball.
It seems to me we have to try something, because the talent isn't there, and
we're not getting superior effort out of the guys on the floor. I don't
know Chuck, I just don't know. :-(
Richard K.
PS - I had asked which/why/how of the Marquette/UofL/OSU/Charlotte games we
would win. We are clearly looking at the strong chance of losing 5
straight, including 2 on our own floor - and prayer isn't the answer. Play
Hicks, Bobbitt, etc., they can't be much worse than the guys you're putting
out there, and at the very least you'd be giving guys who will be back next
year some experience.

I think they showed that they "could" have played
with these guys if they were used differently. Huggs
always says that we showed them what we can't do
well. Well tonight I think he showed that the
lineups and substitutions that he used for most of
the game were not working. Then at the end he allowed
Bobbitt to stay in the game for more than two possesions
and bingo, he scores 16 points in 11 minutes. I don't
give a damn that he did not play perfect defense, he
scored points.
Huggs says in the post game that Max has not hit shots
since the TCU game - THEN WHY THE HELL DID HE PLAY SO
MUCH!? Hicks did something in the first half and his
ass is on the bench for the rest of the half. This was
despite blocking a dunk shot - when have you seen,
Kareem, Flowers, Gene, Hollman, block a dunk?
Let them make two mistakes before pulling them. If
they do not get more time, they will not get into the
flow of the game.
Jackson was allowed to do a whole lot today and for him
to have only 2 fouls until late in the game showed that.
Merritt is a hack and got away with a lot. I think that
UC is getting less calls than ever and needs to play
even harder to make up for it. Unless the freshmen get
to play, this season could turn ugly. Right now, I
start Hicks and sub Kirkland in at the 5. At least they
can contest shots and show some energy while they are in
the game. Playing behind the post men is not working,
DePaul and Marquette backed them down, I would rather
front them and try for the block from behind (it can
not be much worse).
Loved the jump ball call by Hillary in the first half,
he was behind the play and the ball squirted out and he
could not see it, but he called it anyway. Then he
falls face first to the floor after he triped over
Hicks ;-)
Don't lose hope on the season. The talent is there, I
still maintain that Huggs has to give them a chance in
order for them to do better. We will find out at U/L.
Here is proof that something is wrong with the speed with
which this team plays:
Points off turnovers-MARQ 12,CIN 14
UC had 6 TO and Marquette had 15!

Rebounding, defense, shooting...just did not do enough early
on to stay within reach. Good to see that UC fought to the
very end but we just don't have the horses right now to stay
with really good teams like Marquette especially when that
good team plays well.
