You know, after the valpo game, we all were saying that Kareem was the
answer at the center position. But then Kareem gradually started to
fade away, and eventually the starting job went back to Hollman. After
the Miami game, I figured Hollman was the answer at the center position.
But then Hollman started to fade, and saw his minutes decrease. Hicks
started playing well, and we all thought he would be the answer inside,
even though he is undersized. Eugene replaced Hollman in the lineup in
the St. Louis game, and looked like he could be the answer for the
center position. Finally, Hicks got a chace to start (even though it
was at the 4 position in place of Max) but he didn't do anything
impressive in the game. And then to really complicate things, of all
people, Rod Flowers comes off the bench and plays the best game of his
career at the center position!

I've thought all along that Flowers potentially could be the solution at
the center position. He has as much potential as any of our big men.
And Flowers has more to offer offensively than any of the other
candidates (Eugene might be an exception). I still think Rod looks too
timid out there every time he touches the ball. If Huggins could light
a fire underneath him and get some intensity in 'Buttercup', he could
solve the center problem for good.

Good post. I am hopeful that the performance of Rod Flowers in
yesterday's game will help solve UC's center problem. I thought Flowers
gave UC some good minutes. But he had also said the same thing about
Land after the SLU game, and about Flowers after the TCU game. I was
also surprised that Huggins would say publicly that he is often
"irritated" by Flowers. Huggins, for all his great coaching skills,
says some amazing (and in my humble opinion)stupid things about his own
players. Can you imagine a CEO saying in the newspaper that he is
"irritated" by one of his employees. Or, as Huggins said about Chadd
Moore after the SLU game, that essentially "Moore was horrible, and you
can print that."

There has always been a problem getting students to the games. Go to
any frat house and you find ESPN on basketball from Nov. to March.
Start by getting the frats to come as groups. The student section
drives the fan energy in the Shoe. As far as the $$$ I've missed one
home game this year. Take my son or wife to most games and $$ don't
come easy these days. But, if it means helping keep our coach and the
program at the level that it is I will pay more and donate more to
UCATS. I will certainly pay more to sit in the chairbacks. ( I do
enjoy standing with the students though)

The big-man problem will catch up with us again. Remember though we
have the nations best coach. It is remarkable what he has done to this
point with no C. The man is a godsend to this program, university and
our community. The big-man problem could not have been predicted and
will be fixed by next
November.
