but you are not one of the ones not coming to the game, and in
their mind there IS a reason they are not coming to the games.
UC needs to find out what that reason is and work around it to
get them to the game, or they should lower the number of
student tickets.
The best way to find out why they do not go to the game is to
ask them. Park someone out on the streets and ask them if they
go to the game and if not, why not. Then ask them, would you
come to the game if we...
Be creative and try to work around the issues rather than
complaining that they are not coming to the games. Times
change and UC needs to change with them or suffer the
consequences.

Despite the $5 beer, Cincinnati sports are some of the cheapest in the
nation, Bearcats, Reds, and Bengals. At most schools you'll pay
have to buy
your tickets and still have to pay $5 for beer. Heck, aren't we still
of the few schools who even sell beer at games.I
There just is no excuse for not getting rid of all the student tickets.
can see people not wanting to sit on bench seats in the uppercost
corners of the
arena, but students tickets are good seats and are free. It doesn't
you one damn dime to go to a game as a student. Drink at home beforeand
after if that's your excuse. That's what we did as students.I

I have no idea how to get the students there... unfortunately I was an
information systems major and not a marketing major. I think giveaways
would be good though. Give away a free quarter worth of books
game or something. That would have gotten me to the game at least (but
workwas there anyways). I think UC will always have problemsgetting commuters
to the games just because they don't really care about UCsports. Many of
them probably never wanted to go to UC but had no choice due tofinancial
issues.
Maybe lower the price of beer so it doesn't take up a whole hour of
freefor a student! $5 a beer is a killer on a college budget, and I wouldbeers for
guess that many of those students just stay home and have a few
less than $5 total. The Reds and Bengals have done the same thing and
basically priced themselves out of the college students budget due to
continued price increases on tickets and on concessions. Even with
can'ttickets if a student wanted a beer and two hotdogs they'vealready dropped
$10. They could have bought a whole dinner and 12-pack for thesame amount
by not going to the game :).recent UC
That is just me rambling with what comes to my head... but as a
graduate I still can relate to reasons why they don't show up (but
onlyrelate to why they don't show up). Without a Duke or Kansas showing upsaw in my
every game at the Shoe I think it will only continue to dwindle down
unless they start marketing more to the students (which I never
time at UC).where they do
One other thing... kill that stupid commercial on the radio
the rapping... that turns me off from going to the game everytime I hear
it :).

Mick I think that you are right in defining the problem, so what is
the solution? I
think that you have to market to those people that are not coming to
the game.
Make it worth their while to come to the game. How do you do that?
I am not
sure, but I would start with having some giveaways at the game and
some pre
and post game events so that they want to come out to the game.
make the
game an event rather than something that these old farts who are
diehards go
to see just becuase they love basketball.
I think today's student is different and some effort needs to be put
forth to
reach them at their level, not ours... It is worth a shot and if
you got them to
the game and they were fired up, it would help the team.

I'd say it is a combination of spoiled by success and no
commuter students going to the games. I would guess that there are
tickets5000 students who live on and around campus, with probably 4000
ofavailable to students each game. That is asking for a huge percentage
wouldthe campus students to show up. When I was there (up through last
basketball season) no commuter students ever went to the games. I
goask them and they would say they didn't want to drive for 30 mins to
can'tsee a game. It is sad, but unless we are no. 1 in the country you
realizeget those people to drive to the games (it is a similar problem withfootball game in
football too, with many of the commuters never seeing one
their time @ UC). Anybody else notice this in their time at UC?

On the radio show they announced that a number of
student tickets were being put on sale to the general public. I
saturdaythat Tulane is no Marquette or L'ville but this is pathetic. A
aafternoon game with school back in session, FREE tickets for students,
7team that is 3-0 in conference play and that has been CUSA champs for
unpredictableyears and in the NCAA tourney for 11 years(?) and Huggs has totell people
that student tickets are available and that it should be anexciting game.
What the heck is wrong with the students? The students have no excuse,on at 2pm
there is no highschool football or exams or anything else going
Saturday. Have we gotten that spoiled by success?

This group of Bearcats continues to gel. The half
