I am not saying we will make the elite 8 either, but tell me.... Who was the
'defined leader' on our last elite 8 team. Answer... no one. A true team...
solid defensively, deep, disciplined, mentally tough, no Super-Stars. That
sounds a little like this year's team. We will see, but I would say that a
Conference Championship and the Sweet 16 would be a very good achievement
this year. The Elite 8? well, we can dream.
UC's last Elite 8 team had Fortson on it, he was a super star. LeGree was
also on that team he was the closest thing to a leader, which isn't bad. I'd
say this year's club resembles the 97-98 team (one of my favorites). At the
beginning you had questions at the point, no proven 2 guard, one proven
player in Patterson, a career backup in Brannen, and a promising frontcourt
player in Martin. This year, questions regarding the point, no proven 2
guard, one proven player in Stokes, unproven backups in the frontcourt, and
one promising frontcourt player in Max. This team has more depth, but is
less experienced. An outcome like the '98 season would be nice, hopefully it
won't be as painful.
