Chadd was fabulous. Since I had heard the game on the radio and knew of
Chadd's fine performance, I was able to focus on him when I watched the
tape later. It was his good penetration into the lane and quality entry
passes that made the difference.
He started the game with two good 'hands' plays, disrupting the defense
with a block and a steal, then made a good penetration move and then an
entry pass to Maxiell at the foul line for a turnaround J.
Here are some other observations -
Chadd with the rebound, on the break, feeds Field for the layup. And
one.
Good pass by Chadd to Jason, though he fumbled it. Maxiell was in good
position for one of his turnaround jumpers....and a main function of a
PG is to get the ball into the a teammates hands where he has a great
chance of succeeding.
Drive to the hole, pass to Hicks.
Pass by Chadd to Field on the right wing. Field dribbles left once and
hits the bomb.
Drive on the break, beats defenders downcourt, though he missed the
shot.
Another good penetration, although he missed the layup. (getting tired
?)
Pass into the left block to Max. Max spins and gets fouled.
He drove to the hole and got fouled four times, per my count.
That's nine positives and two negatives by Chadd.
I've always felt the a good drive into the lane produces a positive
result about 80% of the time. You can make a pass to the open man, get
fouled or score with a high percentage shot.
By contrast, I don't think Jamaal Lucas made an entry pass all night.
The ball didn't cross the three point arc once after leaving his hands.
Maxiell had some very aggressive reb's on both ends tonight. There just
seemed to be an extra bit of spring in the legs of a lot of
guys...Hicks, Chadd and Max especially.
Great to see Taron immediately coaching Chadd, when he exited the game
in the first half. Taron may end up being Wally Pip, but he is a team
player.
I liked that during the 17-0 run to finish the first half, two freshman
were in the game (EH and CM).
The nine blocks and 13 steals by UC were both season highs. Then again,
so was the 18 turnovers. The 17 assists was one short of the season
high. Having five guys in double figures was a first for the season as
well.
You could see James White on the bench in the Darius Miles Cavaliers
jersey. For you locals...look for a feature on him on this weekend's
Huggins show.

Jason had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards
Chadd played well tonight.had good practices
Eric Hicks is starting to fight through some things now
Allowed only 4 offensive rebounds all night, 0 in 1st half Half-court
defense was good Lenny got his hands on a lot of balls tonight Too many
turnovers tonight (18), forced 31. We can't turn the ball over.
Not a good night from the foul line 2nd unit did not handle the press
very well Maxiell and Hicks did a much better job in the 2nd half
keeping the ball out of the post.
We don't play hard enough for long enough periods of time. Lose
concentration with the big lead.
Taron Barker did not play due to his bad back You have to practice here
if you want to play We've had guys play with stuff a whole lot worse
than bad backs
Another bad night from beyond the arc, only 18% shooting Have a hard
time understanding why Bobbitt and Field don't make more shots Tony
never shoots the same shot twice It comes down to your mental approach.
Missing free throws is 100% mental, especially if you miss right or
left.
Finally got some transition baskets, got our hands on some balls. When
you score, you have a lot more energy on defense You think about a
missed shot more than a missed defensive assignment
Kinda nice to get the freshman in a little bit I don't think they have
any idea what's coming in conference play, especially on the road
