Re: RE: Valpo Preview and UC women's hoops note

I am with you on the Micah comments. The team already clicks better
with her in the game. She is someone you notice right away when she
is on the court. There are a couple of other newcomers that look good
too. No longer are there 3 good players and 2 others who you hope
don't mess up on the court at once. The team should be poised to make
a run this year, with almost everyone coming back next year.

They are fun to watch. I recommend hanging out after the XU game.

Ahem. Let me take this moment to interject that practicing with the
UC
women's team isn't a gimme. I know you weren't insinuating that,
Gregg,
or I'm going to have to have Debbie Merrill come and kick your
butt. :)

Forum is "basketball," right? Not just men's hoops -- but if I'm
mistaken, I'm willing to take the heat for this post. Watched
Laurie
Pirtle's squad look pretty disshevled but still beat Middle
Tennessee
State on Saturday after football. Some interesting things going on
there, in case you missed it. Freshman guard, Micah Harvey is going
to
be the "next" thing. She reminds me alot of Val King as a freshman,
though her shot hasn't been as dead-on as Val's was. Laurie has
Micah
bringing the ball up the floor when she's in, switching
all-conference
point K.B. Sharp to a wing in those instances. It frees up K.B. to
score
more, and Micah has been taking pretty good care of the ball. She
does
need some work there (you can tell she's thinking everything
through
instead of just reacting), but it's going to be fun watching her
develop. Merrill's showing improvement, and even a little nastiness
(the
good kind) in the post.

I'm serious, fellas. You should catch them in the second half of
the UC
double-header Saturday after the Shootout. Tipoff: 7:30 p.m., vs.
Coastal Carolina.

I 'think' I won the last pick ;-) albeit with my second pick.

Like you said Jon, the three you mentioned have to start going
hard in
practice. I feel if things don't don't turn around that Bob will
do
something to grab their attention. This is simply a battle of
wills,
the
players against Huggs, and 'we' know who always wins. They just
don't
'get
it' ........yet. They will though. :-)

When he makes them practice with the girls team or start wearing
pink
practice jersies, they'll understand. Huggins won't let them
embarass
the
previous Bearcat squads. Maybe a few former players need to have a
pow
wow
with them.
