DerMarr to become free agent

Noting that they had no alternative remedy, the Hawks on Thursday
declined to pick up the fourth-year option for injured DerMarr Johnson,
making him a free agent at the end of this season.   "We searched for
alternatives, but there weren't any," executive vice president and
general manager Pete Babcock said Thursday afternoon. 

"We have no assurance that he will ever be able to play again," Babcock
said.
