My thought is that Whaley has another year of being away from home to prove
his act is straightened out. That would make two years of self-control
prior to entering UC. If he messes up in this next year, Huggs can still
pull the plug prior to the spring signing period.
Subject: Re: [UC Basketball] Whaley Commits - My Thoughts
Two things of interest in this article - the first is that he states Whaley
has assured UC he will not declare for the NBA, while this morning's paper
noted Whaley saying that he told UC he would only go in the NBA draft if he
was a top 10-15 selection. Obviously there is an enormous difference
between these 2 positions. Secondly, what does it mean that he "steered
clear of MAJOR trouble?" (emphasis added) Does this mean he had been in a
whole series of MINOR problems?
I am certainly hoping that things work out well with Whaley - but I hope
even more that Huggins really will have him on a "short leash" and there
will not be a plethora of second chances - either needed or granted.
With the 2 schollies left do we take Bass and Minor if they are available,
and if not, who becomes a primary target? I expect not Bender because that
would be a 3rd juco.
