Whaley Commits - My Thoughts

Below are two paragraphs from the recent CBS SportsLine article concerning
Whaley's commitment:

Whaley enrolled at Barton County, a junior college powerhouse where his game
again soared and, maybe most important, he steered clear of any major
trouble. He averaged 19 points and seven rebounds per game last season and
earned NJCAA All-America honors despite being just a freshman.

In choosing Cincinnati, Whaley has assured everyone involved he will not
declare for the NBA Draft next spring. His physical gifts make him an
exciting prospect, but he seems convinced he could use at least one season
under demanding Bearcats coach Bob Huggins.

I think we need to give Huggs and his coaching staff the benefit of the
doubt here. It sounds like Whaley has cleaned up his act and that his
addition talent-wise to UC is going to be significant. I am sure Huggs has
told this kid that he will be on a short leash when it comes to
off-the-court behavior.
