ok, I will sound like Andy the homer here, but all I know is about this time every year, people are whining about how bad the coaches are recruiting, how much we need Cronin, or whatever the current convenient thing is, but come spring we always have a decent class and come November we always win.

So I would suggest to all to relax and remember that we will be ok.

We should all be feeling more than a little ambivalent about Whaley. He not only has loads of baggage (which we hardly need at this point) but also apparently has one foot in the NBA. l hate to see us commit a scholarship then have to wait to see if he jumps to "the league" next spring.

But it goes even beyond that. Why are we taking this guy (and Williams too for that matter)? Because the coaching staff has struck out with the high school players they were going after. What was touted as a banner recruiting year mysteriously turned sour. Good programs use JC players to supplement high school recruits, not as a substitute for them. We still may get Minor (after not even being sure we wanted him and backing off), but that appears to be it. At this point we've been outdone by all our conference rivals, including Marquette and Charlotte. lf you want to know what happened to all the players we were in with, you'll find them on SEC rosters next year. The performance by the coaching staff this year is troubling.

Rivals is also reporting that Whaley gave us an oral commit yesterday. I am
somewhat conflicted - he could be a great talent and a terrific player for
UC, but he comes with a lot of baggage - not just the hung jury in the rape
charge, but a whole SERIES of misdemeanor AND FELONY convictions/pleas prior
to that. I like to believe I am willing to give most a second chance, but
this kid has had a whole bunch of chances, all of which he has pi__ed away.
If Huggins can keep him on the straight and narrow and he performs as is
anticipated wonderful - I just hope there isn't any repetition of the Donald
Little situations. With the young men on the basketball team getting the
highest grade point average in C-USA this past season, along with their #1
NCAA seed, the program appeared headed in a wonderful direction - I wouldn't
want to see a major detour. At this poi! nt I'm happy to wait and see, but I
do admit I will be holding my breath on this one.

PS - Brandon Bender may be a head case, and has been so since before his
sophomore season in high school, and his work ethic may be in question, but
as far as I know there has been no criminal charges. Given my choice
between Whaley and Bender I probably would have picked Bender.
