I think the schedule is all about putting our team in the best position to:
1) win the conference
2) get as high a seed as possible (despite our experience - 1 & 2 seeds are
the teams that advance to the final four. Usually 3 of the 4 teams are a 1
or 2. If memory serves me correctly - last year was a rare exception.
3) and to advance as far as possible
I'm sure the athletic office has a fourth - maximize revenue.
Does our schedule do this? I think it does.
We would all love to see marque games (Kansus-UC or Duke-UC), but Huggins
has said those games really only come about because of TV. I would guess
that games between the six larger conferences routinely draw a larger
audience than a match up between one of those conferences and a C-USA (UC).
And I would bet those conferences are using their football programs to
leverage those deals.
The biggest question is why Louisville is more attractive than UC for those
games TV is negotiating with C-USA. My guess would be 2 reasons - 1) UofL
has a larger fan base (read larger TV audience - more advertising money) and
2) Pitino. I would guess he is more marketable than Huggins and he has
relationships at atleast one network where he has been an analyst).

Strength of schedule, who cares? We've discovered in recent years unless
you have a number one seed in the tourney it doesn't make much difference.
NCAA is basically luck of the draw after the first round and in many cases,
even in the first round. It's a bunch of "fury about nothing". Why even
concern ourselves with it. Come March you gotta lace up your sneakers
and face whatever Mack truck is coming down at you. The less time you
worry about "strength of schedule" and "good seeding" and the more time
you concentrate on acquiring the guts you are going to need when the going
gets tough the better off you will be psychologically.
