Maybe UC secretly wants to join the A-10 or the Ohio Valley Conference. Or is
there no school in the Big 10 or the Big East that will play them? It is a
good thing that CUSA will be tougher this year, especially UC's division,
because the non-conference schedule is not that difficult. Decent games
against Oregon (neutral court), Oklahoma State and at Dayton, but Clemson is
the ACC bottom feeder. Xavier will be a war, whether it comes on the early
date of Dec. 7 or at any time.

If the home games with LaSalle and Florida A&M were replaced by 2 good
home-and-home series (one at home and one on the road this year), say with a Big
10 team and a Big East team as you suggest, this would be a solid schedule. It
seems like I feel this way every year. I can only surmise that UC needs the home
games for revenue purposes, and they're already going to get all the TV
appearances the networks are willing to give them.

It may also be that all of the good teams we'd like to see on the schedule are in
the same boat, meaning that they can't afford to give up a home game to come to
the Shoe (and take a loss on their record), and that the few who might be willing
couldn't agree with UC on dates.

The strength of any team's schedule is going to be dominated by the quality of
their conference. Fortunately C-USA should continue to get better, across the
board.
