Sorry, Brett, but your answer doesn't make any sense. If Louisville can
schedule home and home games with Ohio State, UK, Tennessee and Indiana, why
can't UC?
Which game is more likely to be on TV, thus generating additional revenue:
UofL vs IU or UC-Valpo?
My answer, FWIW:
Louisville vs. UK is an in-state rivalry. UK wouldn't play Louisville until the
KY state legislature forced them to play. UC vs. Ohio State is equivalent, but
OSU won't play UC, and no one is making them.
Louisville vs. Indiana is a border-state rivalry, similar to what UC vs. UK
would be. Indiana gets similar press coverage in Louisville to what UK receives
in Cincinnati. IU is willing to play U of L. Again, UK won't play UC.
There is no question in my mind that UC would schedule UK and OSU annually if
they would agree.
I don't know that Tennessee is any more attractive than, say, Oklahoma State (or
several other Big 12 schools) or Clemson (or any other ACC school). Both are on
UC's schedule this year. I would also like to see a Big 10 team such as Indiana
on the schedule every year. In fact, in most of Huggins' years at UC, that has
been the case.
I think scheduling a good "mid-major" in a 2-for-1 is reasonable, and definitely
preferable to a single home game against a patsie. IMO, the team needs a
challenging true road game or 2 every year before the conference season starts
(e.g., last year it was Oklahoma State). Valpo has commitments from 2 arguably
top 100 players in the class of 2003, an amazing accomplishment for a program at
their level. Maybe they're the next Gonzaga.
