I agree. One word can explain why Max is a Wooden candidate..
Potential. Nothing personal Max, you could develop into an
All-American, Huggins says so. But Stokes is the most
experienced of the 'Cats. He's got potential, but not as much
as Max,

I think Stokes has a lot of potential and demonstrated "game".
Stokes has scored over 30 points in a college game more than
once. One time in an NCAA tournament game. How many people
have ever done that? To me that shows a ton of potential.
Stokes can: Play 1, 2, and 3. He can handle the ball, he can
shoot from long range, he can drive, he can pull up, he shoot
free throws well, he can block shots, he has quick hands and
feet and a good understanding of the game. To me he has a TON
of potential. How many people have you seen that have as wide
a range of skills as Stokes? He does not bring it every night,
but that is what potential is all about.

considering he is going to be a Sophomore (in the eyes
of one of our beloved pseudo-analysts). Stokes is the leader,
the UCLA game is an example ( boy, did he have himself a game).
But if Stokes wasn't picked, then neither should Max. Right
now, I can't see him turning into a dominant post threat, I
mean he's got his sweet turnaround and his dunk off a miss
( and what a dunk!!!), but that's it right now. He isn't
Danny Fortson (even he wasn't the primary option his sophomore
year, and I think both these seasons are comparable). So until
he develops some more moves, I can't see why he'd be the first
option, as Katz says.

I think that Fortson was the primary option his sophomore year.
Scoring from '95-'96: Fortson 20.1, Burton 14.0, Flint 12.8.
Fortson was the man. He was AP All-American, CUSA player of the
year, CUSA Tourney MVP, NCAA all-Southeast Regional Team and 18th
in scoring at UC after two seasons.

I do not think that Max is rated purely on potential either. What
defines a dominant post threat? His turnaround, which he can turn
either way, is not stoppable (from what I have seen) and that alone
could make him dominant to me if they go to him more often. If he
shows a medium range jumper and/or a fake move to free him for
layups (like BJ), then look out. Those arms are something you can
not teach.

I think that Lenny is VERY skilled and will show it this year, and
Max is the same. I look forward to these two against Sato/Baby.
It should make for and interesting game. I think that everyone is
going to be singing the praises of Bob Huggins this year on his
recruiting and how good of a team this year's squad will be. Most
will probably think that they will be down after loosing Logan, but
I think that new parts will grow in to replace him and they will be
a better overall team.

Bring on the madness

Andy
