RE: UC recruiting

UC recruiting

I will wage in with my prediction -

Moore will be the best point guard we have had since Van Excel. Yes, even
better than Logan.

And while we are on predictions - last year I made this statement in an
email to Mike DeCoursey - Huggins gets a National Championship before
Maxiell leaves. I still think this is true.

Why I think Moore will not be a bust!
If you look at Huggins' entire tenure at UC, you see a clear progression in
the quality of recruit he has been able to sign. And by quality I mean
physical skills, potential, character, work ethic - basically the total
package. If you look at the early years, before Huggins had built the
program back up, he had to gamble with players other programs chose to leave
alone (Wingfield is a good example.) Now, UC is in the position to choose
to let such recruits go (Harper is a good example.) And, in the recent ESPN
article, UC is highlighted as a premier program. (UC is in the best
recruiting position they have ever been in - last year they had their class
basically wrapped up in the fall (Bobbitt and then Johnson were the spring
targets). When is the last time this has been true? Usually we are running
around crazy in the spring looking for a JUCO to fill a key role. We have a
verbal commitment for a recruit in 2004! Since last fall Huggins has been
working on this class (no wonder we have shots at Minor, Bass, Brown). I
suspect we will have atleast 3 signees in the fall period. (I know another
prediction - but what else is there to do when Midnight Madness is still 3
mos away.)

I agree there have been some busts, but they have become less common.

[I think BJ is a bust - his work ethic holds him back from fulfilling his
potential. Land is another -- it seems something in his character held him
back - the shoplifting (what was that??) and then things just spiraled out
of control (the sketchy car accident that left him injured and then him just
slipping away). How is Satterfield a bust? He was a key contributer -
contributed more in the Sweet 16 run than Logan did! And, everyone knew he
was going to jump as soon as he could - his socks even said so.]

Having said all this, if we look at the last few classes - there could be
some merit that there is a bust in every class.
01 - no bust (Barker, Maxiell, Holman, Hubbard)
00 - Antwan Jones - bust
99 - BJ - bust
98 - Little
97 - Land
96 - Williams
(I think I have the classes right.)

So that is my 2 cents - Moore - star; ring before Maxiell leaves; 3 of 4
recruits in fall signing.

Peace,
DF
