Re: Little's Hearing

10 reasons for a good season

Besides losing our primary scorer, best defensive player, and "I'll do all
the little things and the dirty work" player, we have also loss our starting
center.

I don't think it's a surprise we are unranked.

Still, I think it is going to be a good year. My top 10 list:

10 ) Early reports on Kirk suggest he might be able to contribute sooner
than I thought.

9) Good leadership - Stokes, Williams, Maxiell - who will help new players
adjust to Huggins' coaching style and expectations.

8) Bobbitt should replace some of Logan's scoring.

7) Hicks will rebound.

6) I anticipate Williams will be an improved player, hopefully with a few
moves to allow him to create his own shot off the bounce.

5) Leonard will step up.

4) Max will be Max and more!

3) With Leonard and Max we will have a nice inside-outside scoring balance.

2) Barker can handle the point and Moore will earn playing time there.

1) Huggins does his best coaching and gets the most out of this type of
team.

The big question is who is going to get the minutes at the 5 spot.

Go Cats!

ps compare this year's rotation vs. last

Logan, I-Mac, Stokes, Davis, Little, Max, Williams (in the 2-OT game against
UCLA it was basically this 7) Barker, Crawford

Barker, Williams, Stokes, Max, Johnson, Bobbitt, Hicks, Moore (There a 8
players who should find playing time on a regular basis) with Grove/Hollman,
Flowers, and Kirkland having to work really hard to find minutes.

Analysis by Steve, Brett and Keith is spot on. That said, how many people
would take the other side of an even money bet if you were to take the side
saying UC will finish in the Top 20 in one or more of the season end
national polls? :-)

Preseason polls for the most part aren't worth the weight in the pixels
used to display them on your computer screen. Will Xavier be good?
Well, when you return 4 starters and 80% of your scoring and you return
a potential 1st team All-American, you better be. Regarding UC, one
really cannot guess how the returning players will make up for the loss
of the top offensive and the top defensive players on the team (Lo and
IMac). Plus, I think UC will miss Jamaal Davis more than some people
think. Huggins often referred to him as the smartest player on the
floor, always knowing where to go and where others should go.

Next season will certainly be fun because I think the team has more raw
talent. The keys will be:
1. Will Stokes step up and take the leadership mantle. He cannot pour
in 30+ points one game and then, disappear the next.
2. How will Mad Max improve? He needs to be DOMINANT in the paint.
3. Who plays point guard and can steady the team from that position.
Barker is probably the lead candidate.
4. How will Field improve? His scoring output needs to be more
consistent.
5. What production will we get from the incoming recruits?

BTW - how does Xavier deserve such a high preseason ranking and UC is
unranked???

Because its an 'easy' pick for the media.

Xavier returns with their All-American C (West) and their starting
backcourt intact.

UC returns minus their All-American (Logan), without the C-USA defensive
player of the year (McElroy), and no McDonalds All-Americans in their
recruiting class. The Bearcats are going to have an inexperienced PG
and no 'go to' scorer at the outset of the season. I can certainly
understand why the national media thinks the Bearcats will be down.

That said, I think the Bearcats will prove 'em wrong .... again!
