Cooling the fires started by the media is the exact reason Huggs should do
this!
Most recruits are 16, 17, 18 year olds. Unless Huggins is calling them
every time a new news article comes out about him leaving UC, his recruits
may become somewhat concerned. 16-18 year old kids are vunerable to media
attacks, not to mention the other coaches that are likely to use this a ammo
against UC. Who would you believe, one person telling you he's staying, or
a thousand people telling you there's a chance he may leave.
Every here knows how the media can start these fires without any real
evidence, but young kids in high school don't always know that. And, if
other coaches or recruiters are using this as ammo why would you believe
that they would lie to you.
Just my opinoin.

And what would this accomplish? If Huggins has been direct with UC, his
players and his recruits (which I am sure he has), there is no reason at
all
to make any such statements. Cooling the fires started by the media IMHO
does not count as a valid reason.

I don't think Huggs is doing this to hold UC hostage at all. I just
think,
if he is not planning to leave UC, then he should avoid situations like
this
that are going to put him in this type of controversial position.
Mr. McCann stated, Huggins and UC has very close ties to the Denver
organization, AND they are looking to hire someone with NBA experience.
So, WHY can't Bob just come out and dispel all these rumors with a
statement
saying he's not interested or is not interviewing for the job. He always
beats around the bush on his comments.
As a PR professional Brian, wouldn't it just make sense for Bob to cover
his
bases here with a clear cut no-nonsense statement like this.
(sorry for all the emails, slow day for me)

Huggins might be looking at things on a slightly larger view. For
instance, connections in the NBA. Not always a bad thing to have when
you want to recruit the very best athletes in this day and age.
Also, what if Huggins does go to the NBA? I'd rather have him there
than competing in another conference or against us in the big show.
Who could blame him if he stood to substantially alter his financial
picture.
I definitely don't thing Huggins is doing this to hold UC hostage.
That's a ridiculous viewpoint.
