Wished it would have been Cincinnati. :-(
University of Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles announced today that
Arkansas will move its athletic programs to the Big 12 effective in the
fall of 2003.
"They made us an offer we couldn't refuse" said Broyles. "We have turned
state's evidence in the NCAA's investigations of the SEC in exchange for
witness relocation in another conference"
Broyles was not forthcoming when further questions were asked about their
"new location", but sources close to the NCAA suggest that they will
relocate to Lawrence, Kansas. Under condition of anonymity, the source
observed that "with their traditions, Lawrence was the perfect place to
hide - their stellar basketball tradition combined with lackluster
football, and their hatred for Missouri were contributing factors"
It was also suggested that the University of Kansas team would follow
their boosters / benefactors to Indianapolis, but NCAA officials had no
comment.
Squealing like a stuck pig is not new for Arkansas. In 1990, as similiar
investigations were underway in the Southwest Conference, Arkansas left
for the SEC under "mysterious" circumstances. Shortly thereafter, SEC
basketball rules changes were enacted which prohibited the calling of \
fouls while an official was in motion, and "40 minutes of hell" became a
national catch phrase. While this was at the time viewed as a quid pro
quo (trade) for Arkansas' "valuable" information, no investigation was
conducted
