Re: NCAA approves new basketball rule

The flop in college basketball, especially involving someone standing almost
directly under the basket, is one of the biggest detractions from the game.
If a guard is fast/quick enough to go around/by his man and get to the
basket he should be rewarded with a lay-up, not penalized with a foul
because some 6' 8" yutz (it's generally the 6'7/6'8 guy not the 7'er)
managed to move 2 steps so that his head is virtually brushing the net and
the guard who has taken off for his layin has no place to go but into him.
And don't tell me he is supposed to have gotten there before the guy with
the ball leaves his feet, otherwise it is a blocking foul - watch the number
of times on video replay that the 2 things occur almost identically in time,
or the defensive guy is split second late and still gets the call if he
plays for Duke or Indiana or some such (or if you are white power forward
for UC)! Gimme a break!

This has always driven me nuts in the college game. I'm so glad they have
seen the light on this one. Now if they would just add the dotted line
around the rim to help with the charging calls. For those not watching
the
NBA these days. They have dotted arc at about a 4 foot radius around the
basket. If you are inside of that on defense when you are hit, it is
blocking. Outside of it, charging.

I like the offensive foul/bonus situation rule. The
free-throw lane rule is weak.
