MEN'S BASKETBALL AWARD CEREMONY (A Salute To A Special Season) 
Tuesday, 5/7/02, in the Shoemaker Center, the schedule is:
5:30pm              Doors open
5:45pm - 6:45     Team Autographs*
7:00pm              Program Starts
*Autographs limited to the complimentary team photo that will be handed out.
Admission is free, concessions will be available. This is a general
admission event, free tickets can be picked up at the Ticket office right
now. 
Questions: Is food going to be available to purchase? Any other info you can
add, why the new format? 
Answer: (Tom Hathaway) The concession stands will be open. Hot dogs will be
marked down to $1, the price charged when the Shoe opened. There is no
banquet. The awards ceremony program starts at 7 p.m. Fans will be treated
to special video and light effects. The message we want to communicate is
this: We truly had a special season in 2001-02. This was a special team. A
reason for its success was the great fan support, particularly during the
stretch run of the season when the Bearcats wrapped up their seventh league
season championship, then took the C-USA tourney. In going away from the
traditional banquet, which was becoming so costly that it was getting out of
the reach of the rank-and-file fan and also had a limited attendance, we are
opening up the ceremony to all fans--FREE--as our way of expressing our
appreciation. We hope that the fans, in turn, show their appreciation for
this team and for Coach Huggins for staying at UC. Because of crowd control
ordinances, we do need to issue tickets for the Salute. They can be picked
up in advance at the Athletic Ticket Office or at the door the night of the
event. Again, they are FREE. Hope this helps. Anything you can do to spread
the good word to the fans is appreciated--we just can't rely on the media to
get that word out any more.
