I can't blame Calipari a bit. However, I don't want
to see our schedule weaken, either.

Even the members of the National Division don't want

do about those teams.

The Sporting News

Memphis coach John Calipari is optimistic about
his team, though the
Tigers lost SG Dajuan Wagner and C Chris Massie to
early draft entry and
wing Scooter McFadgon to transfer. Calipari believes
the pieces are in place
to make an NCAA Tournament run if C Earl Barron
becomes more of a force
inside. Calipari is less sanguine about Conference
USA. Its National
Division, which includes Memphis, has produced one
NCAA Tournament team
since 1997. On a conference call last week, he
lobbied for format changes.
If divisions remain the same, Calipari says teams
should play eight games
against the seven teams in their division and eight
against the opposite
division, with television partners helping to choose
which opponents a team
plays twice. He also discussed an East/West
divisional split that would put
Memphis in with Marquette, DePaul and Saint Louis. .
