The University of Dayton facility is now about 30 years old. It is also the
largest venue in Dayton and so can be used for concerts, large public
assemblies, religious convocations, tractor-pulls, etc. The revenue stream is
there. That is not the case in St. Louis. SLU has historically drawn between
12,000-15,000 on average for basketball. I don't think they could do as well
in their own facility because the larger the facility, the more it would
cost. They would have to do it with 9,000-11,000 seats, and when they
frequently draw that many just two miles away from campus, what is the
incentive for their own campus arena?
