Perhaps you are becoming frustrated with defending the behavior of some UC
students because the behavior of some UC students is difficult to defend.
The behavior cited in the ESPN article is apparently insufficient to cause
you to conclude that the University has been, in general, inappropriately
represented by students associated with its basketball program in the
recent past. I have an ernest question for you. Please don't take it as
argumentative or combative. The question is simply this: If the cited
behavior does not represent inappropriate representation, then what behavior
does? In other words, what sort of student conduct does legitimately
reflect negatively upon the University and its basketball program?
In working this through, let's bear in mind that the basketball team has
between 11 and 13 players on it in most years. That is smaller than most
fraternities, clubs, and other athletic teams at the University. We must
compare the behaviors cited in the article (and those left out) with the
activities of students associated with other groups at the University in
order to gain some perspective on whether there is something unique going on
within the basketball program.
It would also be helpful to objectively and impassionately compare our
experience with this sort of conduct to that of the other 300 plus division
I basketball teams. If we find that we are experiencing this sort of
behavior more frequently, and if the behavior seems to persist over a longer
period of time than at most other schools, then perhaps self-criticism is
warranted.

Or in the case of Long it never really happened at all. But who wants to
let a little something like truth get in the way of a juicy story like
that.
I have gotten to the point where I am done trying to fight it (the
image). I am tired of searching for email addresses, writing to
reporters, arguing with them about misperception and defending the
program. I figure I spend a few hours a week emailing such clowns. Yes
this latest situation is horrible and will only add tremendous fuel to
the fire but no matter what happens or doesn't happen UC will get
slammed nationally. If no UC player got in any trouble for the next five
years and every player graduated in that time, the first time a player
got a ticket for reckless driving, a dui, or any other offense, it would
be front page news and the media would be discussing "patterns of bad
behavior" and connecting the incident to horse punching from 10 years
before and a DUI by some former player in 1998, and so on and so on.
Eventually, one realizes that there is no way to change hearts and
minds. So now I deal with it by simply not reading the articles and
ignoring pieces like Sullivan's which contains no new news and no unique
take on anything. It is just too hard to fight anymore. Why invest time
and energy into responding and emailing people like Bucky Albers who are
going to hate UC no matter what. It is a little hard to send out
defensive emails given the latest ammunition with the Little situation.

at the advice of another forum member I'll keep this response simple.
ROTFLMAO!!!
It's pretty funny! And Sad all at the same time...
Although.. frankly, with the exception of Little... Most of the stuff is
either small or happened after they were bearcats.

We are beginning to look like the old UNLV only without the national
championship. I would not have even dreamed as making that statement a
month ago but perception becomes reality if everyone believes it.
