I found this on the Chicago Public Schools web site
http://www.cps.k12.il.us/AboutCPS/people/Duncan/duncan.html
It includes the bio and email address of the
"educator" who is quoted in the article.
Arne Duncan, Chief Executive Officer
Email: address@hidden
My favorite part of the article was "Duncan believes
such factors are empty excuses, using as proof teams
that have good graduation rates."
How nice that a columnist can use a quote like this
with out any proof to back it up.
BTW, since the article mentions Freshman entering the
program from 1990 to 1994, how many actually used up
their eligibility at UC
Fall 1990 was Huggins second year and I think Bostic
entered then.
Fall 1991 was the class with all of the Jucos and the
start of the Bad Image, because no one can win
legimately if they use Jucos and Jucos are bad
intimdating people they came from a Juco :)
Also John Jacobs redshirted this year.
Fall 1992 I think was Keith Gregor's first year.
There was also someone named Ford who proved that he
only D-II talent.
Fall 1993 was the big class with the Don, Flint,
Burton, Julson, Wolfe, and Marco Wright. Only 2 of
these players used up their eligibility.
Fall 1994 Danny and Bobby
I know someone like Randy will be able to quickly fill
in the missing folks. Once we have a complete list,
we can do our own reasonable calculation of players
that have completed their eligibility and "eventually"
graduated.
The Bonus points for our percentage are the Jucos and
transfers (into the progam) they don't count, example:
AD Jackson and Art Long were Soph's when they started
Well at least the ACC can gloat since they claimed
another national title,

obvious to me that he didn't watch the ESPN show,
and probably didn't call
anyone at UC to get another side.
And not to sling mud, but Chicago Public Schools
officials should worry
about their own academics. Last week, the State of
Illinois told about 400
schools,
"... including 309 in Chicago, that they could be
impacted by a 'school
choice' provision of the new federal 'No Child Left
Behind Act.'
If those schools do not show enough progress on
state tests Monday through
April 12, the officials said, they will have to
offer their children the
option of transferring to better-performing schools
this fall and free
busing if necessary." -- Chicago Sun-Times, March
31, 2002.

I looked it up and he's from Aurora, which is in the
Chicago area.
You're right.... And your memory is better than
mine.
I would ask for focus on the article though. It got
me stirred up that
folks with the ability to have a positive impact on
students lives,
doesn't do his research. Its one thing for a writer
to screw it up, but
this is the head of a huge school system making
these statements.

Not to nitpick, but wasn't Aaron McGee a Chicago
recruit?

Here is another example of someone with power not
getting all the facts
before making statements to the press.
Arne Duncan is the head of the Chicago Public School
System.
"The whole thing is a travesty," Duncan said of
Huggins' record and West
Virginia's seeming apathy about it. "This
exemplifies everything that's
wrong with big-time athletics. "There is no sense
of academics having
any importance whatsoever. There's just a coach and
a school becoming
wealthy, largely on the backs of poor inner-city
kids. "The fact this
gets rewarded, that another school (WVU) wants to
hire this guy is
mind-boggling to me. I would discourage our athletes
from going to a
program like that. It just infuriates me."
--------------------------------------------------------------
FYI: the last recruit to come out of Chicago to
Cincinnati was Levertis
Robinson. If Duncan is going to say these things
without investigating
them first, we can forget about Chicago talent
coming to Clifton. If
you wish to voice a complain, the writers email
address is at the bottom
of the article.
