My reply to the writer in Lexington....

"Here is an abbreviated rap sheet on Cincinnati's character: Dontonio Wingfield did time for assaulting two policemen; Donald Little allegedly tortured his roommate; Shawn Myrick did time for sexual battery: Roy Bright allegedly carried a loaded firearm on to campus.
Recruit Tyree Evans is accused of statutory rape in Massachusetts. And lest we forget Art Long, who was accused of punching out a police horse."
We have 4 accusations among that abbreviated list, two of which (Long and Little) proved to be simply accusations. Evans never set foot on Campus as a student. Bright was expelled immediately and had showed NO problems in his past. There are plenty of truths when it comes to reasons to criticize Huggins, but your little summary there is very flimsy. Should Tubby be fired over the Chuck Hayes situation? Or Myron Anthony/Wayne Turner? Or Ryan Hogan? Or Jules Camara? Or KY's graduation rate that has them in danger of losing a scholarship according to the last report? I certainly don't think so. But I am not influenced by your opinion. Sadly , many are.
What evidence is there that Huggins "refused to change his bullying ways"? That is just sloppy reporting. Granted, yours is a column, so it doesn't have to be rife with fact, but seriously. Read the 39 pages of correspondence between Coach Huggins' lawyer and the school's lawyer and tell me who is bullying whom.
In those 39 pages, there is a real story. One, the school leaked the documents to the media, which can be seen by the fax information at the top of the scanned documents. Not a huge deal, as for once they got a bright idea and decided to control the news cycle. But some of the details in those letters probably should not be made public. I know there are allegedly lawsuits that may be filed as a result. And, apparently, allegations are very important when forming an opinion to transfer to the public. So maybe you have a story. Two, the University president lied to everyone in saying there would be no new negotiations until a new AD was hired, and that they were happy to have Huggins coach out his contract. A resign or be fired ultimatum is not consistent with those statements, nor are the letters. Three, the very same misinformation with regard to the NCAA's flawed graduation rate calculations is used by the University against its coach. That is simply sickening. The FACTS are that Huggins has graduated players at rate 20 percent higher than that of the school in the last 5 years. Shouldn't the real story be why UC can't graduate students at the rate the (supposedly) non-player-graduating coach can?
I understand the point of your column, which is to heap praise on Zimpher for placing something above wins. However, I think that "something" is completely personal. If the DUI was a problem, she should've booted him then. What has changed since then? UC graduated 3 of 4 seniors last year. One, a transfer, is just short of his degree and is, I understand, pursuing a pro career. Certainly the track record of recent 4 year Bearcats Jason Maxiell, John Meeker, Leonard Stokes, Field Williams and Jamal Lucas is a good indication that Huggins can and does graduate guys he has for 4 years. If Nick Williams (the transfer) didn't take care of academic business so as to be on track for a 4 year degree before he came to UC, is Huggins to be faulted for that? Or if the school does not recognize many of his credits because he is a transfer, should Huggins be blamed? Should he be blamed because a transfer simply doesn't have the time, as an athlete, to really overload his courses to get back on track? Seriously, this isn't about the DUI, or the supposed lack of graduation, it's personal. She just wants to make a change, same as she did in giving the same ultimatum to 4 deans of UC's biggest schools. She wants her people in there, as is her prerogative as president with the support of the board. That, however, doesn't deserve opinion-based praise, especially when that opinion is short-sighted and off base.
As I said, please read the link. Thank you for your time in writing columns and reading this. Bravo to the fourth estate.
