... if, at Midnight Madness last October, someone would have told you:
- Mike Pilgrim will be out of the program in a few days
- like Pilgrim a year ago, Vincent Banks will not be eligible all year
- Chadd Moore's back will flare up again, to the point that he will have to quit basketball
- like Nick Williams a year ago, Jihad Muhammad will struggle at the point
- Asrangue Souleymane will not get any significant minutes all year
- new walk-ons Erick Murray and Ryan Patzwald will see first half minutes in conference games more than once during the season
But, as of March 1, UC would:
- be 22-6 overall, 10-4 in C-USA
- have 4 close losses:
- to a top 5 OOC opponent at home
- to a top 15 C-USA opponent, both at home and on the road
- to a top 25 C-USA opponent on the road
- have a near-blowout OOC loss to the undefeated, unanimous #1 team
- have another near-blowout loss, to a C-USA opponent on the road who will make the NCAA tourney, the only time UC just wouldn't show up
When you think about it, there haven't been many (any?) years under Huggins when UC has been this consistent with such limited depth.
I think tonight (Senior Night) should, in all fairness, be filled with raucous cheers, not just for the seniors and not just because it's yet another convincing win. And especially for the man behind it all.
